Circular ClubA Redesign Lab division · Lima and Bogotá

Circular economy that pays off, for Latin American industry.

Circular Club turns the circular economy into business cases with NPV and IRR, so each company knows which circular opportunity fits, how much value it creates and how to finance it. Our method, the Circular Playbook LatAm, is aligned with the progress of the ISO 59000 family of standards.

  • 7stages, from preparation to scaling
  • 17circular business submodels in 5 models
  • 15business cases modeled in Peru and Colombia

01The method

Seven questions before investing in the circular economy.

Each stage of the Playbook answers one question and closes with a deliverable, from the kick-off charter signed by management to the value case reviewed by finance and the pilot with a real customer. The full guide, its twelve tools and its Excel models are in Spanish.

  1. 0

    Prepare

Who leads, with what scope and under which pressures?

  2. 1

    Diagnose the value chain

Where, and how much, value does your chain lose?

  3. 2

    Choose opportunities

Which models, submodels and synergies capture the value your chain loses?

  4. 3

    Build the value case

How much money does it create, with what investment and at what cost of capital?

  5. 4

    Measure gaps

Which capabilities, skills, technology, culture and partners are missing?

  6. 5

    Plan and pilot

What gets done, in what order, with whom and how is it tested?

  7. 6

    Measure, scale and adjust

Did it work, how does it grow and what needs correcting?

02The evidence

Is circularity profitable in Latin America?

Yes, when the circular option is cheaper than the linear one for whoever pays and operates at scale. Almost never when it depends on creating a new market. Profitable circularity exists, but with thin margins. It concentrates in businesses with scale, a cheap input or a service that can be charged for, and it rarely matches the most publicized cases.
